Tom Hooper And Dafne Keen Join 'His Dark Materials' With Lin-Manuel Miranda In Talks As Well!

It is a huge day for updates on ‘His Dark Materials’ as it’s being reported that Tom Hooper (‘The King’s Speech’) will be directing the film with Dafne Keen (‘Logan’) set to star and Lin-Manuel Miranda (‘Hamilton’) close to signing. Hooper had been wanting to work on adapting the series since 2015. The 8-part series is looking to tackle Phillip Pullman’s trilogy: ‘The Golden Compass’ (‘Northern Lights’ outside of the United States), ‘The Subtle Knife,’ and ‘The Amber Spyglass.’

His Dark MaterialsKeen will be playing the central role of Lyra who is “a young orphan girl who finds herself thrust into a dangerous adventure when she sets out to find a kidnapped friend. Over the course of the trilogy, Lyra joins Will, a boy with the ability to cut through worlds, and together they embark on a journey that thrusts them into a world-spanning war where they discover a prophecy surrounding their own destiny.”

The character of Will has yet to be cast though since he is introduced in the second novel, it should be no surprise that an actor has yet to be revealed or even selected for the role.

Miranda, on the other hand, is in talks to join as “balloonist and adventurer Lee Scoresby.”

If ‘The Golden Compass’ sounds familiar, it had been previously turned into a film in 2006 which starred Daniel Craig, and Nicole Kidman though didn’t draw in enough attention to warrant a sequel.
