Even though, in all honesty, it might be quite some time before we actually see a second season of ‘The Punisher’ (either on Netflix or the Disney streaming service, not sure how that is going to work in the future), it is exciting to hear news about how production on the second season is going, and hearing casting news is especially cool as it allows us to start speculating on potential theories on where the show might be headed in its sophomore season. So the news from Marvel is that they have cast 3 new characters for the second season of ‘The Punisher,’ though what capacity these characters will be (whether they are series regulars or just guest-stars) is unknown at the moment.

Here are the character breakdowns according to Marvel.com. First up is Josh Stewart who will be playing the role of ‘John Pilgrim,’ who Marvel describes as:

“a man whose calm exterior belies a ruthless interior. Despite having left behind a life of violence, circumstances will force him to use his old skills and bring him into Frank Castle’s world.”

Next up is Floriana Lima who will be joining the cast to play ‘Krista Dumont:’

“a smart, compassionate, and driven psychotherapist for military veterans.”

And finally we have Giorgia Whigham who will be playing ‘Amy Bendix:’

“a street-smart grifter with a mysterious past.”

According to Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer on ‘The Punisher:’

“Josh, Floriana and Giorgia are all remarkable talents and we can’t wait for the audience to see what we have in store for them in the second season of Marvel’s The Punisher.”

Steve Lightfoot, showrunner and Executive Producer for the series, also chimed about his excitement for the casting, stating:

“We are incredibly excited to have Josh, Floriana and Giorgia joining the cast of Marvel’s The Punisher and seeing them bring their talents to the next chapter in the Frank Castle story.”

For anyone who may not know the actors that have been cast, Josh Stewart is probably best known as a series regular on USA’s series ‘Shooter,’ though he also appeared in the most recent addition to the ‘Insidious’ franchise, titled ‘Insidious: The Last Key.’ Floriana Lima was a series regular on the CW’s ‘Supergirl’ playing Maggie Sawyer, who dated Alex Danvers before they broke up earlier this season. She also recurs on Fox’s ‘Lethal Weapon.’ Lastly, Giorgia Whigham plays the character Beth on the new, rebooted third season of ‘Scream’ on MTV and is also starring in a new movie called ‘Sierra Burgess is a Loser.’

Do you have any thoughts or theories on the characters that have been cast? Any idea how they could tie into Frank Castle’s world? I mean, besides the obvious, as clearly the therapist will be someone trying to help Frank through his demons, and the John Pilgrim character will be someone forced into hunting down and attempting to kill Frank. But could there be more to it than that? Feel free to share your thoughts/ theories in the comments below!
