J.K. Simmons Commissioner Gordon Justice League

We’ve all know that Joss Whedon’s cut of ‘Justice League’ was vastly different than what Zack Snyder was putting together and a new casualty of this change has surfaced – J.K. Simmons‘ Commissioner Gordon. From what it sounds like there hadn’t initially been many more scenes filmed for the movie, but most of those that had been ended up on the cutting room floor. For everyone out there demanding a Snyder Cut be released, this will surely just add fuel to the fire for that request as who doesn’t love having more J.K. Simmons on screen?

As to what Simmons had to say on the matter, he shared in a recent interview that:

“I was barely involved in the movie, period. And then, that even got cut. I only worked with Zack [Snyder]. Because I don’t really pay attention to show business, outside of my own thing, I was unaware of most of that. I didn’t even know until somebody in the press told me about the re-shoots. And I have no idea what to expect, going forward.”

While it is a shame for Whedon not to have included the talented actor, it is unlikely to have changed any public opinion which already felt the movie ended up being too long as it was. What we do see of Gordon in the film is seeing that he believes Batman may have lost it and joined the villains he previously stopped due to an increase in both missing persons and a murder rate on the rise.

This all ends up settled after he meets with the Justice League and we get the primary scene from the trailers everyone loved with The Flash disappearing on him.

We already know that the deleted scenes on the digital home release didn’t include any additional footage with Simmons and one can only hope that changes for the Blu-ray release.

At this time it isn’t clear if Simmons will be back for the role. However, he does add:

“Assuming that we’re gonna go forward, the way we think it will, I’m really looking forward to that. Hopefully, it will be really fun and the character will expand a little bit, particularly in the stand-alone Batman movie. There will be more to do. I guess it’s Matt Reeves now for that one, who I haven’t met. So, it will be a whole new collaborator to get together and work with, hopefully.”

Unless the DCEU ends up getting canceled outright, which I don’t see happening, I suspect Simmons will be returning for at least the Reeves’ films.

Are you annoyed that there was more of J.K. Simmons’ take on Commissioner Gordon originally fleshed out in ‘Justice League’? Does this make you want to watch the fabled Snyder Cut or do you think this would have added much to the film? Share your thoughts below!
