Sony’s maybe-connected-to-the-Marvel-Cinematic-Universe-maybe-not ‘Silver & Black’ has officially signed up its two writers– Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. This movie will focus on two Spider-Man supporting characters, mercenary Silver Sable and jewel thief Black Cat. This movie has been in the planning for several years, but after ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ faltered at the box office, it was put on the back burners. Now that ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ has re-established Spidey as a viable box office lead, Sony has jumped right back in hopes of building a shared universe around Tom Holland’s take.
Both Beer and Robertson-Dworet are up-and-comers and are (were?) attached to the planned Hasbro shared universe of movies. Robertson-Dworet handled the final draft of Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘Captain Marvel‘ and has since moved on to the reboot of ‘Tomb Raider‘ to be directed by Roar Uthaug with Alicia Vikander starring as Lara Croft. She is also attached to a third ‘Sherlock Holmes’ movie, but considering director Guy Ritchie’s poor track record in the last few years, it remains to be seen if that will happen. Robertson-Dworet contributed to last year’s hit ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.
Beer is attached to the writers room for ‘Kong Vs. Godzilla‘. She also penned the comedy ‘Sierra Burgess Is a Loser’ (which she also produced), and contributed to the upcoming sci fi film ‘Chaos Walking’. She is also attached to the ‘Short Circuit’ reboot (because that needed to be a thing).
Both were part of the Hasbro movie writers room, which involved movie versions of 1980s cartoons and toy lines ‘Dungeons & Dragons’, ‘M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand’, ‘ ROM’ and ‘Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light’. Considering that the last ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ didn’t do that well, it’s unclear if these are still in the works.
Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and produced ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ is aligned to direct ‘Silver & Black’.
