black panther

This week saw the release of a lot of new footage promoting upcoming releases for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from the much anticipated trailer for ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp‘ to a brand new extended clip from ‘Black Panther’ complete with a new trailer for the movie, which is set to premiere in just a few weeks.

The clip features a casino fight scene where T’Challa and his allies are after Klaue but are quickly “made” by the enemy and have to fight their way out. The footage shows off the various fighting skills of Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), not to mention finally seeing Everette Ross (Martin Freeman) in action while taking cover with T’Challa.

While talking about the clip, Lupita Nyong’o  spoke about how refreshing it was to have two female characters in a superhero movie work well-together and have a respectful relationship with one-another, as displayed in the new clip. In her words:

“Ryan [Coogler] made a point of avoiding the expected female-rival narrative. In this genre, where spandex is involved, oftentimes the women are pitted against each other. In our story, there are so many different women holding their own space. Women may be in competition with each other, sure, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an absence of love or respect.”

The new trailer shows a little more of Wakanda and the eventual happenings there, a little extra footage from the car chase sequence, some more footage from the end of the casino fight, and shows off a little more of the supporting characters in action:
