If you’re a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan and you haven’t been watching or DVRing ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ this week, then you have been missing out, my friend. This week has been “Marvel Week” on the late-night talk show, and Kimmel & company are pulling out all the stops. They debuted the new ‘Doctor Strange’ trailer a few nights ago, and they had all of Team Cap on the show earlier this week. Last night, however, it was Team Iron Man’s turn on the couch, and not only did the stars come out – they brought along a new clip from the film as well.
Robert Downey, Jr. was on hand, of course, and after a brief solo interview with Kimmel, a few more members of the team were introduced as well: War Machine (Don Cheadle) and The Vision (Paul Bettany) were in attendance, as well as Agent 13/Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), who was coy about who’s side her character was really on. Bettany recalled a fun little behind-the-scenes type of story about how his role as the voice of Tony Stark’s “personal computer butler” JARVIS eventually turned into him playing The Vision (spoiler: it was not originally planned for Bettany to eventually become The Vision, no matter how much advance planning the MCU creative types claim to do). Before the group chat, though – the clip was unveiled to the world. Check it out:
(UPDATED: Marvel UK has released the full 1 minute extended version of the clip seen on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’!)
As you can clearly see, Bucky seems to be back in full “Winter Soldier” mode, or is at least having mental and physical flashbacks of such. It’s pretty clear that Team Iron Man have been ambushed or, at minimum, surprised by the encounter with Bucky, as they are all out of their armor/uniform and are dressed fairly formally. It certainly doesn’t seem to be going well for the group – pay special attention to the hint about their shared past that Black Widow subtly drops on Bucky – before Black Panther (also out of uniform) swoops in to attempt to save the day.
Movie-goers don’t have much longer to wait to see the full story on the big screen; ‘Captain America: Civil War’ opens in US theaters on May 6.
