Disney

We’ve known that Disney was making a play for Fox and it has officially happened ladies and gentlemen! It seemed almost a given that the House of Mouse would purchase it once Comcast backed out of talks. With Disney’s drive for streaming content, new properties, and reuniting the cinematic Marvel Universe this was a deal made in heaven!

Some creators such as James Mangold have made it clear that they are suspect of the deal but we’re hoping he’s wrong.

A few mysteries have also been cleared up! While it was initially unclear if Disney would also regain control of the ‘Fantastic Four‘ we now know that they will! We’ve learned that “the agreement also provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love.”

This isn’t clear as to when and how this will happen at this point. It is likely that the studio will at least be able to finish off the films currently in production but we’re still not sure if an R-Rated X-Men world with the likes of ‘Deadpool’ and ‘X-Force’ will exist outside of the MCU’s more family-friendly continuity. Outside of Marvel properties, they’ll also be picking up 21st Century Fox’s other film and television studios, their cable entertainment networks, and international TV businesses for the $52.4 billion dollars being paid out.

This is just kind of mind-blowing. There is a lot of opportunities here but also a real concern as to what Disney might do moving forward.

So far, Disney hasn’t been ruining the properties they’ve been picking up and letting them run independently. While that has been the case, it would be hard to imagine not seeing some crossover with the Marvel properties but we’ve got a long wait ahead of us to really see how this all pans out.
