ben kenobiOver the summer we had all heard that Lucasfilm appeared interested in adapting an Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film and now it looks as if this untitled ‘Kenobi: A Star Wars Story‘ is looking to begin production in early 2019! We haven’t heard official confirmation that the movie was even going to be happening and with Rian Johnson getting to do an entirely new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy it was unclear if the standalone films would still be a thing. It isn’t known if Johnson’s new trilogy will be replacing the Saga movies for the every other year schedule, the standalones, or start another round of movies to be seen.

At the very least, it doesn’t appear to be shaking things up in the immediate future so if they are replacing a timeslot it would be 2022 before they really change the landscape.

Either way, initial news had the studio eyeing Stephen Daldry (‘Billy Elliot’,’The Reader’) to direct and likely would have Ewan McGregor back to reprise his role from the prequel trilogy though it would be unclear if this would bridge the events for him between the two trilogies further than ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ has done or if this would take place during the Clone Wars.

While none of the rumored details have been confirmed, a production source has shared that “Joshua Tree”, the film’s working title, is set to begin filming at Pinewood Studios UK in January of 2019. With a saga film due this year and in 2019 as well as ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ due in 2018 this would be the perfect timing to shoot for a 2020 release date.

Personally, I’d love to see an adventure of Kenobi after Palpatine takes over our favorite galaxy far far away but before he moves to Tatooine to watch over Luke.

Are you excited at the thought of seeing a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi film? Which era would you like to see it appear in? What cameos do you hope could happen? Share your thoughts below!
