maze runner: the death cure

‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ is finally arriving next year.  Early last year, production on the film was halted for an extended period of time after star Dylan O’Brien was injured on set while performing a vehicular stunt.  O’Brien suffered multiple broken bones, but was able to return to finish the final film in the ‘Maze Runner’ series.  Principle filming ended in spring of this year and now we’re getting our first look at the finished product.

Fittingly, the first trailer for ‘The Death Cure‘ aired during the series finale for O’Brien’s long-running hit series ‘Teen Wolf’ on MTV.

In the epic finale to the Maze Runner saga, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions the Gladers have been asking since they first arrived in the maze.

To be honest, it’s a little extra nerve-wracking to watch the stunts in the trailer, knowing that one of them could have been the stunt O’Brien was injured while performing.  You can watch the new preview below:

In addition to the trailer itself, 20th Century Fox has released a few still photos from the film:

O’Brien discussed his on set injury and his lengthy recovery, saying:

“I really was in a dark place there for a while and it wasn’t an easy journey back.  There was a time there where I didn’t know if I would ever do it again… and that thought scared me, too.” He added, “In a lot of ways, those six months went by like that. And then, in a lot of ways, I can still remember that six months as if it was five years of my life.”

The ‘Maze Runner’ movies are adapted from the YA novels by James Dashner.  Wes Ball returned to direct this third and final film, based on a screenplay by T.S. Nowlin.  In addition to O’Brien, the cast includes Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Katherine McNamara, Nathalie Emmanuel, Rosa Salazar, Patricia Clarkson, Barry Pepper, Giancarlo Esposito, and Walton Goggins.

Are you glad to finally get the last chapter of this story?

‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ will open on January 26, 2018.
