HBO has recently announced that ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 12, 2017 (digital download available September 25th), which of course means fans are eagerly awaiting all of the special features that are sure to accompany the release of the penultimate season of the series on Blu-Ray and DVD. One such feature announced is ‘Conquest & Rebellion: An Animated History Of the Seven Kingdoms,’ which is a new addition to the ‘History and Lore’ features from the previous Blu-Ray and DVD releases of the series. ‘Conquest & Rebellion’ will feature Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger), Conleth Hill (Varys), Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) as narrators as they take us through the full history of Westeros leading us to the state we found the world in when the show began, the first chapter of which HBO was kind of enough to release already, which you can check out below!
‘Conquest & Rebellion’ will feature Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger), Conleth Hill (Varys), Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) as narrators as they take us through the full history of Westeros leading us to the state we found the world in when the show began, the first chapter of which HBO was kind of enough to release.
The special seems particularly important and interesting now that we can see the significance of these backstories and family entanglements in the present, but it is a shame that they did not have something like this at the beginning of the show to help those who did not read the books navigate their way through the complicated history that George R.R. Martin built for ‘Game of Thrones.’ Still, we have it now, and I do enjoy the animation style, and it just might help shed more light on some things for Season 8. I hope they release more episodes online leading up to the release of the Blu-Ray so we do not have to wait until December to see more of ‘Conquest & Rebellion.’
