death star

Ever since taking the reigns for the ‘Han Solo’ stand alone film from Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who were fired by Lucasfilm for “creative differences) back in June, Ron Howard has been doing an excellent job of keeping the fans excited for the new film by releasing images and updates on his social media account, with the latest teases really getting the internet excited. (You can check it out right below here). In the post, there is a black Death Star trooper helmet sitting atop a computer console with a caption by Howard stating “The Empire Looms Large.”

Is he hinting that the Death Star is going to play a role in the ‘Han Solo’ movie? It would be complicated because Han had no idea what the space station was until he saw it in ‘A New Hope,’ but there are some creative ways it could be used. Han could be taken there in secret, and have no idea where he is during the movie, and taken out the same way. Or it could just be where one of his villains works and Han himself never goes there, or LANDO could go there since we have no idea of Lando’s association with the first Death Star. After all, we know Donald Glover will be playing the iconic role, so I’m sure they are going to make sure he has something cool to do. The possibilities are there.

Of course, the downside is the idea that every standalone movie set before ‘A New Hope’ for some reason NEEDS to have the Death Star in it. The ‘Star Wars’ universe is so much bigger than that and I would hate for that to become a recurring trope. Same goes for if they keep using Vader in every movie set before ‘A New Hope.’ I love Darth Vader, but it is such a big universe, they could do so many more things besides retreading the same villains and locations over and over again. But then again, I am talking about a movie where they are retreading the same hero again, only telling his origin story and having him played by a different actor…

Anyways, what do you think about the Death Star being in the ‘Han Solo’ movie? Does it make you more or less excited for the Ron Howard film? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
