Geneva Robertson-Dworet

It was just announced that Geneva Robertson-Dworet was taking over the writing chores on the script for ‘Captain Marvel’ from Meg LeFauve & Nicole Perlman who had signed on to provide the script in 2015.  The original writers had to depart when LeFauve was offered the opportunity to co-direct Disney’s animated feature ‘Gigantic’ with Nathan Greno.

This raised some questions among fans.  Was Robertson-Dworet ( who penned the upcoming ‘Tomb Raider‘ reboot) writing a completely new script?  Was Perlman staying on to work with her?

Perlman addressed these inquiries on Twitter:

She indicated that most of the script that she and LeFauve had turned in would remain intact, including the fact that the Skrulls would be featured heavily.

“Yes, of course. All the ideas the SDCC Marvel panel shared this year were pre-Geneva’s involvement. Others will stay too. Can’t say more.  Which is all to say – it’s going to be fine, and the project is in excellent hands.”

As for Perlman, she will be moving on to ‘Detective Pikachu’, the remake of ‘Labyrinth’ and penned a treatment for a solo ‘Black Widow’ movie, although it looks like David Hayter will handle the actual script.  She and Robertson-Dworet are both credited (along with three others) for the script for ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’.  They are both part of the Paramount Hasbro writers room along with Lindsey Beer, Michael Chabon, Cheo Hodari Coker, Joe Robert Cole, John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, Jeff Pinkner and Brian K. Vaughan, working on film adaptations of toy properties ‘M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand’, ‘ROM’ and ‘Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light’.

Robertson-Dworet is also attached to ‘Gotham City Sirens’ and ‘Dungeons & Dragons’.

As for ‘Captain Marvel’, it stars Brie Larsen and will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and is due to be released on March 8, 2019.
