Disney has hired a new writer for ‘Captain Marvel’, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who penned the script for next year’s reboot of ‘Tomb Raider’, directed by Roar Uthaug, with Alicia Vikander starring as Lara Croft.
It’s unclear if this means that Robertson-Dworet is no longer attached to ‘Gotham City Sirens’, another superhero flick from rival studios Warner Brothers, with Margot Robbie set to executive produce and star in as her ‘Suicide Squad’ scene-stealer Harley Quinn and David Ayer to direct. Robertson-Dworet may still do both. While ‘Gotham City Sirens’ has been announced, WB has not decided when it will begin production. On the other hand, ‘Captain Marvel’, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, starring Brie Larsen, is locked into a release date of March 8, 2019. However, when it comes to rival superhero movies, the studios tend to not play nice. (For instance, after taking a supporting role in ‘Superman Returns’, James Marsden’s character Cyclops was killed off from 20th Century Fox’s ‘X-Men’ series.)
In addition to ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Gotham City Sirens’, Robertson-Dworet is attached to write a number of genre projects; ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’, plus the planned Hasbro shared universe, consisting of ‘Dungeons & Dragons’, ‘M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand’, ‘ROM’ and ‘Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light’.
She was previously part of the ‘Transformers’ writers room, which was recently disbanded.
Robertson-Dworet has made the Black List– an honor bestowed on the best unproduced scripts– twice. Her script ‘Ares’ was picked up by MGM and Anna Foerster is set to direct.
Meg LeFauve & Nicole Perlman were previously attached to write ‘Captain Marvel’, but LeFauvre departed to co-direct Disney’s animated film ‘Gigantic’ with Nathan Greno.
As for Brie Larsen’s Captain Marvel, it is rumored that she may actually debut in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, but so far, that is unconfirmed. She will be the first female Marvel hero to headline her own solo movie.
If you want to sample Robertson-Dworet’s work ‘Tomb Raider’ comes out on March 16, 2018.
