With the massive success of ‘World War Z‘ one would expect to see the sequel follow in the footsteps of Brad Pitt’s character Gerry Lane in his quest to save the world. Don’t hold your breath for that to happen! No matter how much you may be attached to Pitt and his flowing hair, that may not be the direction that the Juan Antonio Bayona (‘The Impossible’,’The Orphanage’) directed ‘World War Z 2‘ will be headed when it hits the big screen in 2016.

So what will the movie be about you may wonder? Well screenwriter Steven Knight (‘Seventh Son’,’Locke’) didn’t give many details but what he did say has a huge impact on the direction of the film:

“He’s writing the treatment for the sequel for Brad Pitt’s Plan B’s “World War Z,” which is set to shoot in October for 2016 release. “I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on.”

With Lane having found a potential way to help combat the zombie virus it could have been used to slowly wage a war with the undead and hopefully take back the world for humanity. What seems like a straight forward path is being completely thrown off with the fact that they are “starting with a clean slate.”

The novel that the film is extremely loosely based off of has survivors giving their history of how they survived through the outbreak in their own region of the world so while salvation happens, this could be another story or set of stories that is going on while humanity digs in and fights off the hordes of flesh eating monsters. There are a lot of directions this quote could go in so it’ll be interesting to see what details are announced in the near future if they are still set for that 2016 release.

What are your thoughts on ‘World War Z 2’? Will another set of eyes help to capture the spirit of the novel or do you want the story to go on from where the first film left off? Share your thoughts below!
