The CW loves giving us fun new takes on villains in ‘Arrow’ and now we see Kirk Acevedo (‘Fringe’,’12 Monkeys‘) joining the series as Richard Dragon! We had recently learned from executive producer Marc Guggenheim that Stephen Amell would be going up against Dragon in the sixth season and are thrilled to see the casting choice. Acevedo is an actor who can pull off heroic, villain, and a bit of crazy so to see him as Dragon is an almost perfect casting choice! With the fifth season seeing a great response from fans with a grounded story and believable villain, you had to wonder what could be even more of a challenge to Arrow than the cliffhanger that left us wondering how much of Team Arrow was still among the living.

Adrian Chase’s Prometheus was a nice change from the supernatural aspects of Seasons 3 and 4 with both Ra’s al Ghul and Damien Darhk, so it will be nice to see another more grounded villain for Oliver to go up against.

For those unfamiliar with Dragon, he’s a pretty classic villain who goes by the name of Ricardo Diaz. Once an ex-con, he has a mission to take over Star City’s criminal underworld and is a master of hand-to-hand combat. In fact, he is often considered to be one of the top martial artists in the DC universe and is on a level with the likes of “Karate Kid, Batman, Bronze Tiger, and Lady Shiva.” It isn’t until The New 52 that we see him as a strong enemy of Green Arrow and John Diggle.

At this time it is unclear as to exactly what the setup will be that will have these two characters facing off.
