We’re just days away from the event that has been building since April 2015– the release of Netflix’s ‘The Defenders‘, the street-level equivalent of ‘The Avengers’ but instead of high-tech wonders, super soldiers, mythical gods and rampaging gamma beasts, this motley crew consists of a blind acrobatic lawyer, a detective whose super career ended in tragedy (and who might just have a drinking problem), an ex-con with impervious skin and an off-kilter rich boy who was believed to be dead for years.
The shows have largely proven wildly successful with ‘Daredevil’ having already been given a second season and a spin-off in the form of ‘The Punisher’. The weekend when ‘Luke Cage’ premiered, so many viewers binged it that Netflix crashed! And ‘Cage’, ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Iron Fist’ have all gotten second season orders.
With only days before Netflix possibly crashes again when ‘The Defenders’ becomes available, the last few bits of promotion are trickling out.
First, the cast– (clockwise from bottom) Finn Jones (Danny Rand/Iron Fist), Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones)– grace the cover of British magazine ‘TV & Satellite Week’.
Of the four source programs, ‘Iron Fist’ received the poorest reaction from viewers for a variety of reasons. One of those was the overall lighter tone which clashed with the darker, grittier shows that preceded it, but with the four heroes gathered, hopefully it makes sense that he is there to lighten the mood among these brooding loners.
That is on display in this new (and final) trailer for ‘The Defenders’. While some of the footage has already been shown, we do get a couple of new images, including Élodie Yung‘s Elektra taking on both the indestructible Luke Cage and Danny Rand’s energized fists. (Luckily, it seems Elektra has a limitless supply of swords. She’s going to need them.) Sigourney Weaver‘s Big Bad, Alexandra also appears, but her motivation and master plan are still a mystery.

Finally, just as a bonus, the Luke Cage Twitter account released a brief clip of Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. The clip doesn’t really make much sense on its own, but I’m sure that in the context of the show, it will.
