For everyone excited about the litany of Marvel shows coming to Netflix this year, EW has dropped an issue this week with loads of new information about the Marvel Netflix heroes, including a particularly intriguing interview with Jessica Jones herself, Krysten Ritter, about the state of Jessica heading into ‘The Defenders’ and how life changed for the hero following the events of Season 1 of ‘Jessica Jones.’ When asked about the current state of Jessica’s life, especially now that Kilgrave has been dealt with, Ritter explains that all is still not well for the reluctant hero:

When asked about the current state of Jessica’s life, especially now that Kilgrave has been dealt with, Ritter explains that all is still not well for the reluctant hero:

“She’s still dealing with the aftermath of Kilgrave, and now she’s dealing with ‘success’ — and not well. People want her to work for them, she’s getting a lot of business, and she’s not ready for any of that. She hasn’t changed, but her environment has, and there’s no handbook for how to exist in a world where you are now popular.”

After stating that Jessica and Daredevil have a “cat and mouse” dynamic, Ritter is asked by EW who is the cat and who is the mouse, to which she replies:

“It switches back and forth, to be honest. No one’s best friends in all of the Defenders. This is a reluctant team-up.”

A statement which is echoed by ‘Defenders’ showrunner Marco Ramirez:

“She’s gloriously the most reluctant hero in the world. She’s going to have to let three men into her life who she doesn’t 100 percent trust.”

When asked about the size of the production and sharing the spotlight with the other heroes, Ritter had the following to say:

“When I read the first two scripts, I was like, ‘Wow, this is going to be big,’ because it’s so fun seeing these huge characters, and not just the four of us, but all of us in one show…This just has a big scope. It’s a much bigger world because all of our characters have a very specific way in, a specific beat.It was never a negative thing or a daunting thing,”

Are you looking forward to ‘The Defenders’ and seeing how all of these characters are going to interact with each other on screen? Do you think the Marvel/Netflix folks will be able to pull it off as masterfully as Joss Whedon did with the first ‘Avengers’ film?
