Sigourney Weaver‘s mysterious Alexandra won’t be the only sinister force on ‘The Defenders’.  It’s now been confirmed that Élodie Yung’s Elektra from ‘Daredevil’ Season Two and The Hand will be back to menace these street-level heroes, comprised of Daredevil/Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist/Danny Rand (Finn Jones).

A brief new video, released through ‘The Defenders’ Twitter page teases the resurrection tomb used by The Hand in ‘Daredevil’ Season Two to revive both Nobu and Matt Murdoch’s former love Elektra.

Yung previously shot down rumors of starring in a solo ‘Elektra’ series, even though her character was a breakthrough on ‘Daredevil’ Season Two and fellow ‘DD’ character, ‘The Punisher’ played by Jon Bernthall did get his own series.  But Yung was open to returning as part of the larger group.

“I love Elektra. I really have a special place in my heart for her. It was very enjoyable for me to discover her and to adapt her for this project and bring myself to this character. So I have a special spot for her. Having my own show — it’s not something that I think of, it’s not. I think I would choose to do things because they are interesting, because I like a character or because it’s very well written. Or because it makes sense. So that’s my answer.

I would love to appear in ‘The Defenders. I don’t know — because hopefully she’ll maybe be on the bad side. I don’t know — I don’t know what they’d do with Elektra in ‘The Defenders’ but that would be a good dynamic I think — to be confronted by these four superheroes and I think it would be interesting. I’d be curious to see what they do.”

Marvel’s Netflix universe has been building to this show, so despite the tepid response to ‘Iron Fist’, ‘The Defenders’ should still deliver the viewers.  In addition to Yung, obviously Cox, Ritter, Colter and Jones are returning along with Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, who has appeared on all four previous Marvel/Netflix shows.  Also returning are Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Wohl as Karen Page and Scott Glenn as Stick from ‘Daredevil’, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker and Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse from ‘Jessica Jones’, Simone Missick as Misty Knight from ‘Luke Cage’ and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing from’Iron Fist’ as well as Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth who has appeared on both ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Iron Fist’.  Joining the fun are Babs Olusanmokun and Debbi Morgan as new characters, Sowande and Delores, respectively.

Are you excited to see Elektra back on TV as part of ‘The Defenders’?

Two seasons of ‘Daredevil’ and the first seasons of ‘Jessica Jones’, ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Iron Fist’ are now available to stream on Netflix.  ‘The Defenders’ is expected to arrive on August 18, 2017.  Second seasons have also been ordered for ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Luke Cage’ but release dates have not been set.
