King KongComic crossovers between properties aren’t new but sometimes one is so vital to geekdom that it is a shock that no one has thought of it before. BOOM! Studios and Twentieth Century Consumer Products did that and teamed up with DeVito Artworks in order to bring us ‘Kong on the Planet of the Apes’! Yes, folks, the residents of Skull Island are going to exist in a world of those “damn dirty ape”s!

We’re going back in time here as this comic will take place after the 1968 ‘Planet of the Apes’ film and see “Dr. Zaius and General Ursus lead a small group of soldiers to the Forbidden Zone to destroy any remaining evidence of Taylor’s time among them. To their surprise, they discover… a KONG! Now they must travel to Skull Island to discover the truth, but they may not survive the deadliest journey of their lives!”

Color me intrigued! Not only are we going to have to see how and why this group can get to Skull Island but what else they might find there. Also, how will any potential living Kongs deal with these apes? It seems like the one that they come across won’t be counted among the living if this cover is any indication.

When talking about the project, Ferrier states that:

“There’s such a deep mythology to both properties, especially if you consider all of the amazing Kong and Apes comics that have come out in recent years. With this series, we’ve found a coherent, meaningful way of having these two worlds and their legacies fold into each other. The implications of the Ape civilization discovering the Kong world are huge, and that’s certainly on the forefront of the series.”

There will be three covers for the first issue of this series. They’ll be by Mike Huddleston, Carlos Magno, and a movie poster variant by Hans Woody. I can’t help but be eagerly excited to see this one get released!

Do you think that a King Kong and Planet of the Apes crossover makes sense? Will there be other Kongs alive on Skull Island? If so, how will they react to their new visitors? Share your thoughts below!

‘Kong of the Planet of the Apes’ #1 will be available in your local comic shops and online in November!
