Another “dark” style comic book character is headed to the big screen – and Jared Leto, fresh off his Joker-ing in ‘Suicide Squad,’ is circling this new role.

‘Bloodshot’ will be a big-screen adaptation of the Valiant Entertainment comic book series of the same name.  Jason David Frank (of ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Green Ranger fame) recently portrayed the character in the web series ‘Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe,’ but it appears that he may not be the first choice to carry the big-screen version.

According to reports, Leto has been offered the part, but a deal has not yet officially been struck.  The film itself will be directed by Dave Wilson, produced by Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe, with executive production by Valiant executives Jason Kothari and Dinesh Shamdasaniof.  The movie is part of a planned five-film series based on various Valiant characters, with the “cinematic universe” being produced by Moritz and Sony Pictures.

According to the Valiant Wiki:

[Bloodshot is] A violent but heroic super-soldier with nanites in his blood that give him special powers. These powers include superhuman physicality, the ability to regenerate from any wound if he consumes enough matter, the ability to alter his body shape, and the ability to communicate with machines. His body was engineered by the secret government organization Project Rising Spirit to turn him into a living weapon. The process that gave him his powers also made him lose his memories, so Rising Spirit implanted false memories to manipulate and motivate him. Bloodshot would eventually break free of their control and begin living his own life, attempting to atone for his sins and figure out who he truly is.

Bloodshot has existed in comic-book form since 1992, spending his entire existence with Valiant.  The character has had several series over the years, including ‘Bloodshot: Reborn,’ ‘Bloodshot USA,’ and ‘Bloodshot and the H.A.R.D. Corps,’ in addition to three volumes of a self-titled comic run.
