With contracts coming to an end and a reality altering gauntlet being introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, many have thought that this might lead to a reboot of the franchise. Thankfully, James Gunn has jumped in to confirm that this isn’t the case. At least, not for the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

With Thanos about really wreck things for everyone and no one being sure as to what the untitled ‘Avengers 4‘ will bring it would almost make sense for everything to get reset in order to have an excuse to replace actors. With the film also being set to be the culmination of the 22-film series and that the movies would be different going forward it almost sounds like that is what they would have in mind.

Hell, Kevin Feige even said that there was a chance that a Phase 4 wouldn’t happen which lent more credibility that the only way that would be true is if things got rebooted. However, as he also stated that the sequel to ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ would be the first Phase 4 film that sounded like a conflicting quote.

Thankfully, Gunn has shot that all down when asked about it:

He also shot down a few follow up questions, first on a soft reboot:

Also when asked about actors or characters being changed:

Honestly, I’m not sure why this would be too surprising as we already knew that not only was ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ was in the works but that it was stated to have the same characters even if after it the team might have issues.

While there will clearly be some major shake ups in the cast of these films going forward, I wouldn’t expect that the biggest cinematic franchise in the world would go full on reboot at this time.
