The Marvel Cinematic Universe fanboys caught on fire recently when Zoe Saldana, in an interview during her ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2’ press tour, seemed to reveal that the as-yet-unrevealed title for the fourth Avengers film was in fact ‘Infinity Gauntlet.’  However, James Gunn, the director of both ‘Guardians’ films, has jumped into the fray, stating that this is simply not the case.

Here’s the video of Saldana, who plays green-skinned Gamora in the ‘Guardians’ movies, as she makes the statement in question:

Now, this seems like a pretty casual mention, and Marvel has made a big deal so far about keeping the title of Avengers 4 secret and under wraps, so it’s certainly feasible that ‘Gauntlet’ is NOT the title of the film – perhaps just a code name or “frame of reference” title that cast & crew might be using.  Seeing as how we all already know that Avengers 3 will be subtitled ‘Infinity War,’ to then call the next film ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ seems like a natural progression, but also a really weird thing that Marvel would so vehemently want to keep secret.

From an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, Gunn says point-blank:

“It’s not the title. My guess is that Zoe just misspoke. I’ll talk to Zoe today, but I would imagine that is just Zoe misspeaking and saying ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ instead of ‘Infinity War.’”

Gunn, for his part, is pretty transparent and truthful on social media, so there’s really no reason to doubt what he’s saying here.  Could he be covering for Saldana?  Technically, yes, but again – we should give the benefit of the doubt here.  In any case, time will tell soon enough what the fourth Avengers movie will be titled.
