Suicide Squad

To try and get ‘Suicide Squad 2‘ in front of a wide audience you would think Warner Bros would tap a seasoned director for the film’s release, but current rumors suggest the studio is eyeing Jaume Collet-Serra (‘Orphan’,’Unknown’) to helm the movie.

With his work on ‘Unknown’ and ‘Non-Stop’ we know that he can clearly put together a solid action flick and with the success of ‘The Shallows,’ he can handle suspense as well. However, with the all-star cast that will be involved, this pick almost feels like a gamble. If he can pull off the magic that he has done with lower budget films then this could be a film that will follow in the footsteps of ‘Wonder Woman’ as being a fantastic entree into the DCEU.

However, audiences everywhere will likely be tuning in with lowered expectations after the lack of fun promised in the first installment. Since Warner Brothers wants to start production on the film by mid-2018, we know that they’ll have to announce a director sooner than later just to make sure that any last minute writing and pre-production changes can all be settled in time.

David Ayer had handled the original film which earned $745.6 million worldwide so it was by no means a box office flop but critics and fans have panned the release. At one point Mel Gibson was in talks to direct the film but with script changes and delays which still haven’t been finalized, production was pushed back and Gibson had to bow out due to other commitments. Currently, a treatment by Zak Penn (‘Avengers’,’Ready Player One’) is being turned into a script so that portion should be settled soon.

There is no word as to who will be returning in the follow up as Jared Leto’s Joker might not be involved if Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn isn’t since she already has another spinoff to film. We’d see at least Will Smith’s character returning.

Are you happy to hear that Jaume Collet-Serra will likely be directing ‘Suicide Squad 2’? Which characters do you think will make up the team in the second outing? Share your thoughts below!
