doctor-strange

With the release of ‘Doctor Strange‘ coming up it should come as no surprise that we’re finally finding out more about the character and according to actor Benedict Cumberbatch it actually sounds like we might get some Tony Stark vibes off of the persona. He never mentions Iron Man by name but he describes the character as both arrogant and funny which pretty much fits Tony perfectly. With the Sorcerer Supreme once having been rumored as a future leader of The Avengers and Robert Downey Jr’s contract possibly coming to an end with the studio, it might make sense to bring a character with a similar personality to the forefront.

Cumberbatch was drawn to play the character because:

“The script, the director, Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and talking about how to make a character written in the ‘60s and ‘70s relevant now.”

They are planning to do this by giving us Strange’s origin story but “to make him slightly less arrogant. Arrogant, but also humorous.” This really feels like Tony and even if none of the above comes true it shouldn’t be surprising that Marvel Studios would want to pattern their next goatee wearing superhero after their most successful one.

For the film itself, Cumberbatch didn’t fully realize how epic of a piece he was getting himself into until he saw footage at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. After viewing it his thoughts were basically:

“Some bits made me think, ‘Wow! God. That’s what I’m part of,’. You have conceptual art that they show you, but you only really realize what you’re part of at the end of the process.”

I’m always glad to see the reactions from most of Marvel’s actors. The vast majority truly seem to be excited about working on the films and on these characters. At least, they are good at acting like they do.
