We know that while the cinematic take of ‘Assassin’s Creed‘ may or may not have failed to launch a new franchise, there is already a television show being explored and now an anime series as well. This new anime series has the full backing of Ubisoft and Adi Shankar as well. It is unclear if this anime series will be an original take or being done instead of the potential live-action Netflix series which Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot had brought up late last year.
The news on the anime series came straight from Producer Adi Shankar who revealed the information on Facebook. His current project is an anime series based on ‘Castlevania‘ which can be streamed on Netflix so it almost seems like this could be the series Guillemot had previously mentioned. As this is just being announced we also have no idea if it would be related to the film, video games, or have an original concept that moves the story forward.
Here is the announcement he made:
That being said, we should probably hold off until Ubisoft jumps on the news. We’ve seen Shankar’s comments on a ‘Dredd’ sequel coming at “
some point” quickly be
rejected as not being totally on point. There isn’t anything here that makes it seem like ‘Assassin’s Creed’ wouldn’t be happening as an anime but it would be good to wait and see just to be sure. While the thought of an animated take on the series sounds like a way it could be done within budget, I really want to check out the release of ‘Castlevania’ this week before I get too excited.
I suspect that will be the benchmark as to how well this idea can perform.
