Drake Bell

Drake Bell may be swapping teams.  Bell has provided the voice for Peter Parker/Spider-Man on several Marvel animated series, starting with ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’, carrying on in ‘Avengers Assemble’, ‘Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.’ and finally headlining his own series ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’.  He also voiced Spider-Man in several video games, in addition to playing a live action parody of Spidey, called Dragonfly in the big screen comedy ‘Superhero Movie’ (seen above).  But he might be headed to the Distinguished Competition.

Bell has been posting some… intriguing images on his Twitter account.

First there was:

Just to clarify, that’s a pic of DICK Van Dyke, a plain gray swatch, and the sun.  Put them together, that’s roughly Dick Grayson, the hero originally known as Robin, but who became Nightwing.

We already know that Warner Bros.’ new ‘Titans’ series focuses on Grayson as he attempts to forge his own identity separate from his mentor Batman.  The new series will be available on Warner Bros.’ new streaming service.

He followed that tweet up with this one:

A knight and some wings.  As in Nightwing.

Bell is best known as… well Drake from ‘Drake & Josh’ the Nickelodeon teen series.  But it’s been several years since then.  Check out a couple of pics from a photo shoot he did for Flaunt magazine:

He’s certainly filled out since his ‘Drake & Josh’ days.

‘Titans’ is due to begin filming in September, in Atlanta, the same general area where ‘The Walking Dead’ films.  It will be produced by Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, and Akiva Goldsman, the same crew behind The CW’s current slate of DC shows, ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.  The reception to those shows have been mixed– while some love them, others are more… reserved in their reaction.

With the Con season underway, and with San Diego Comic Con coming up, expect more news regarding ‘Titans’ to filter out.  It’s possible a full casting will be announced at SDCC.  Right now, we know that in addition to Nightwing, the series will include Beast Boy, Raven and Starfire.  It’s unlikely that Cyborg will be included, due to his role in the DC films, including ‘Justice League’ and possibly his own solo movie.  But there have been dozens of heroes who have served as Titans and it’s possible any of them could show up.

Previously, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Steven R.McQueen was lobbying hard for the role of Nightwing when the show was still in development at TNT, but it’s unclear if he lost interest or was just passed over.  AND it’s not clear from Bell’s posts whether he was actually cast or if he is just trying hard to get the role and to drum up fan support.

We’ll keep you posted!  How would you feel about Drake Bell as Nightwing?  Do you think he can pull it off?  Or would someone else be better in the role?
