hellboy-3

Guillemo del Toro had previously publically stated that he is all for whatever Mignola wants to do cinematically with the Hellboy franchise and has once again shown his support for ‘Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen‘. This is a film which could potentially launch a B.P.R.D. themed cinematic universe, and fans of del Toro’s work are eager to hear what the director has to say about it. With some excited for new films and some annoyed that we’ll never get an endcap to the trilogy, it is easy to see why the fandom wants as much insight as they can for the upcoming film.

According to Del Toro who was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter while leading a 2-hour talk at the Annecy Animation Festival:

“I don’t own Hellboy, Mike does. So, you know, he is the father of the character and if he wants to reboot it, it’s perfectly fine. I got to make two – that’s two more than I thought I would get to make … So you know, as far as I’m concerned god speed and god bless.”

Fans might be disheartened at the lack of a third film in del Toro’s take on the character, but at least he’s open to more being done. We all know how many films del Toro has passed on or had to push off over the years so handing over the reigns to a director and creative team which might not only be able to build an ongoing series but hopefully do so promptly is something that fans should keep their eye on.
