We’ve been waiting for details to emerge from Fox’s upcoming ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘ and it sounds that it is possible they might touch on the cosmic side of Fox’s Mutant Cinematic Universe. As the Dark Phoenix is eventually revealed to be a cosmic entity and is most notoriously known for destroying a star and an inhabited planet which circled it, it wouldn’t be a long shot to start exploring the universe. I’m not sure if they’ll quite go that far into the character as we haven’t seen the X-Men head out into space yet let alone introduce the Shi’ar or Skrulls who are important to the story arc. However, it is interesting to see that we might finally get a look at what else lives in the X-Men’s cosmic side of the universe. Since Bryan Singer had previously stated that he’d like to take the X-Men into cosmic territory, this could be the perfect time for that to happen.

New details have come from producer Hutch Parker who was recently asked about the film and more specifically what they would do differently with Jean this time around compared to ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’:

“Quite a bit. Again, I can’t really speak to anything specifically, but I think the challenge as offered by all the films we’ve mentioned is very – we’re very aware of the challenge that those movies pose and what it sort of demands of us as storytellers mining, again, one of the great comic runs in The Dark Phoenix Saga. Our hope and expectation is to try and do something that feels different, that takes the audience into a different tone and a different sense of cinematic style that is appropriately suited to the story we’re telling. So I’m trying to answer your question without giving anything away.”

As always wen it comes to Marvel they are vague though he does directly reference “The Dark Phoenix Saga” which kicks off returning from space and heads back into it as well. While being vague, he also continues to say:

“But we are committed to that and know that it’s not as simple as picking up where we left off in any way. We actually have to be more bold [sic] and more inventive than that.”

Earlier in the interview ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was mentioned, so when asked if we might finally see the mutants heading to the stars Parker coyly responds:

“[Laughs] That is certainly a possibility. That is certainly a possibility. Yes.”

With Fox owning the rights to both the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four,’ there is a slew of cosmic stories which could be brought into the mix. From the Shai’ir to the Skrulls to Galactus and Silver Surfer. Not only that but fans of the comics know that Summers’ brother’s father ends up being a space pirate who is leading a group called the Starjammers.

There is plenty of opportunities to see Earth and cosmic based stories here.

Are you hoping that ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ will introduce the cosmic side of Fox’s Marvel Universe? What races do you think will be included if they do? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
