'Ant Man And The Wasp

A major question fans had after seeing ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ (aside from asking where Hawkeye was during all the commotion), was where exactly, was Ant-Man and why didn’t he and/0r the Wasp join the battle to protect Earth from Thanos? There has been a lot of speculation with ‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’ about to hit theaters about whether their movie happens concurrently in the timeline as ‘Infinity War’ or is somewhat of a prequel to ‘Infinity War,’ serving to explain why Ant-Man and The Wasp were too busy to help the Avengers, but as many suspected, the explanation is actually based in real life.

It seems that director Peyton Reed did not want Ant-Man or the Wasp in ‘Infinity War’ as he wanted their film to be a stand-alone movie and not tied so closely to that film. He also worried that by shoehorning the Wasp into ‘Infinity War,’ her heroic introduction would not get the attention it deserved since the last time we saw her on-screen in the first ‘Ant Man’ she had not yet assumed the ‘Wasp’ identity, a concern which also prevented filmmakers from using her character in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ And the last excuse, and the one most likely to be a bit of tongue and cheek, Reed stated that:

“Whenever these heroes pop up in movies I’m not involved in I get jealous.”

Now while it would have been cool to see Ant-Man and the Wasp with the other Avengers in ‘Infinity War,’ it does make sense to keep their story separate for now as ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp,’ according to reviews, has a completely different tone than ‘Infinity War,’ a lot more fun and humorous. If they were tied all that closely to ‘Infinity War’ and all the tragedy inherent to the ending of that movie, I doubt their stand-alone film could have been as light and silly.

Still, one or both of them (which will depend on whether The Wasp survives the “snap”) better show up for ‘Avengers 4’ as both Ant Man and the Wasp were founding members of the team in the comics. If ‘Avengers 4’ is the last time we see the original team on the big screen, I want to see that original team with the core members from the comics.
