One of the Easter Eggs we all know ended up being cut from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ was that Nathan Fillion appeared as Simon Williams on movie posters. Director James Gunn was asked about this in a recent Q&A and wants to stress that the whole thing was blown out of proportion. We’ll get to that in just a moment.

For those unfamiliar with Simon Williams off the top of your head, he was an actor who ended up becoming Wonder Man, a long term Avenger with quite a strong power set. He spent the last couple of years in comics trapped in the body of  Rogue and only recently, just prior to the events of the Secret Empire story arc was let loose once again thanks to Rogue having taken Deadpool’s powers into herself and her body expelling the hero.

So what did Gunn have to say about Fillion showing up here?

“There is no Nathan Fillion cameo, and there never was a Nathan Fillion cameo. There was no scene with Simon Williams, he never did anything else.”

He went on to say that the “things got out of control” with how much it was talked about as the entire thing was really more like an Easter Egg which had to be cut. Still, it was an exciting Easter Egg with a genre actor that is much beloved by those who enjoy these films.

Sadly, it seems like Wonder Man won’t be powering up anytime in the near future in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

Are you still a bit annoyed that we didn’t get this as an Easter Egg or do you feel that Gunn is right that far too much attention has been paid to this? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
