Ever since we first saw Thanos at the end of ‘The Avengers,’ we knew that the Infinity Gauntlet story arc wouldn’t be too far off and now we’re learning a little as to how much ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ will follow it. Clearly, we’ve seen Thanos prepare and unsuccessfully attempt to gather the Infinity Stones, but now Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige is giving us a tease as to The Mad Titan’s plans. Oh, and we may have learned the title for ‘Avengers 4‘ which has been kept a secret as the title itself is considered a spoiler for the upcoming film.

While talking about ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’ it was asked of Feige how close to the source material this story would be. While it is difficult to imagine Thanos wiping out half of the world’s heroes as we have so far as is, unless The Defenders do end up as a cameo only to be killed off, we know there will be some significant changes. Especially, as many of the major cosmic heroes and Gods haven’t been introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of yet.

According to Feige:

[His motives] will be similar to what they were in the Infinity Gauntlet in various ways. I guess that’s all I can say about that.

Anyone who has read the comics knows that his goal wasn’t to take over or kill the universe outright. His entire quest for power was to entice Death into actually loving him. He only killed off half of the Universe when Mephisto manipulated him into thinking that it would earn Death’s affections.

As we’ll be seeing Hela introduced in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ it would seem that she might be a stand into the Misstress Death in this iteration though we have yet to get full confirmation on that one way or another.

While not one of Thanos’s motivations, I highly suspect we’ll also see the scene where he turns Nebula into one of the walking undead also factor in as he won’t be happy with her. As she aligned herself with Ronan in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and he isn’t the most forgiving of father figures it would seem like a perfect setup to have a little bit of revenge when he finally assembles the Infinity Gauntlet.

Speaking of the Infinity Gauntlet, it is rumored that this is the title of the fourth Avengers film which, if true, means that we’ll be watching Thanos gathering the gems throughout the entire fourth film. This news comes from Zoe Saldana as she talks to a reporter about how she is currently filming ‘Infinity War’ and that the Guardians will “all have to go back for Gauntlet”:

This might be annoying to some fans if true, but it seems unlikely with Thanos not having any of the gems yet that he would be able to gather them all in the first act of the film and not feel rushed before the final confrontation. If that were the case, you almost would expect the final fight to be lackluster in length.

Ever since it was rumored that the Infinity War would be two parts, it seemed to fit that the first movie would be a ton of fights involving The Mad Titan and a slew of the major players from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe before setting up the second act which would pit everyone against him.

Of course, this could also just be the working title that the cast is calling the film until they are told the official title.

What parts of the original ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ story do you feel will end up in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’? Do you think that ‘Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet’ will be the name of the fourth movie? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
