The main casting choice that no one seems sure of in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ is who exactly Benicio Del Toro (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’,’Sin City’) will be playing and what he’ll be up to. Today, it appears some of that mystery has been resolved. While he has previously been listed as a villain in the film, it remains to be seen how major of a villain he could be. However, the one thing I will say is that from what we’ve found out it would almost appear to be a Jabba the Hutt or lower level of a character.

As this hasn’t been included in anything official quite yet there are clearly spoilers ahead.

We’ve learned that either his name in the movie or at least that in production is that of D.J. and they’ve described him as the following:

He wears all black. He has a trench coat on with a Han Solo-style belt at his waist to hold his blaster. His hair is short. He also has a strange cap that doesn’t have a bill to it. He looks slimy and dirty, but the bill-less cap makes him look sort of like a throwback to a different era. He belongs in the criminal underworld by the looks of him. The man in black-style character we heard about is certainly there, but his style evokes a few things in the design. His trench coat reminds me of Anakin’s Revenge of the Sith costume in that its lapels evoke a tabard look and its black leather.

On top of all of this, he seems to have a ship that stands out. We’re not talking a Millennium Falcon kind of stand out, but it appears to be extremely “fancy.” Think of it being how the Falcon would look if it were designed today and placed in one of J.J. Abrams ‘Star Trek’ films. The cockpit has a single red seat for the pilot and a communal area in the back of the ship. The interior in this area seemed to be more of a callback of Queen Amidala’s ship from ‘The Phantom Menace’ than something a typical smuggler would use.

Which makes you have to wonder what kind of a criminal or villain he’ll end up being, or if he is just a villain that our heroes will need to get on their team for a mission.
