abernathy and dolores westworld

Well it seems that the most recent casting announcement for ‘Westworld’ was just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, as we have more news from HBO’s latest hit coming our way thanks to Deadline, who is reporting that Louis Herthum has been promoted to Series regular for ‘Westworld’ season 2, which is scheduled to premiere in 2018.

For those who might not remember, Herthum played Dolores’ original father Peter Abernathy in the first few episodes of Season 1. Peter finds the lost picture of William’s fiance in Time Square, New York, on the ground, which does something to his programming, corrupts it in some way. This ends up with him somehow setting Dolores on her path for the season and sends him to “retirement” in the Westworld sub-basement with the other failing Hosts who are left for dead, with Herthum being replaced by a new Host playing Peter Abernathy.

When last we saw Herthum’s Peter Abernathy, he had just been selected to be the Host for some corporate espionage (supposedly), and it seemed as though he was going to be loaded up with some confidential information regarding the park and the Hosts. It was assumed he had snuck out of the park even though we never actually saw that happen.

The fact that he is now a regular in Season 2 has loads of possibilities behind it, one of which is that he did indeed make it out of the park and could actually be the character that shows us the world outside of the Westworld park, something that fans have been clamoring to see for most of Season 1, especially after all the vague hints about the futuristic world humanity inhabits that have been dropped so far (not to mention to help us figure out where exactly the park is located. If Abernathy is able to take the train straight to New York, for example, we know the park is on Earth. If he has to take the train to a spaceport and ride a rocket back to Earth, then we know Westworld could be anywhere, from the Moon to Mars. With all of the big character deaths and shake-ups at the end of Season 1, it is not that surprising to see some actors promoted to regulars for the second season, though I am still waiting to hear about new characters/actors being added to the series for the new season, as that will also shed some light on where the plot could be heading.

Do you have any theories based on Herthum being promoted to a series regular? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
