Some interesting news has popped up in the world of Universal’s Horror Monster franchise. ‘Van Helsing‘ has just picked up Dan Mazeau (‘Wrath of the Titans) to work on the script! He’ll be working with producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan on the new iteration of the character on what is likely to be the final script for the film if it all comes together. This is interesting news after we had last heard that Eric Heisserer (‘Arrival’) was finishing things up on the script with Jon Spaihts.

Heisserer had indicated at one point that the studio wanted to have a man without superhuman abilities in Van Helsing though it is hard to say if that is still the direction of the film now that Mazeau has taken over. At this time, it isn’t quite clear as to if Mazeau is doing a full re-write, touching things up, or just working on a particular portion of the script.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Abraham Van Helsing first appeared in 1897 in Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula.’ Yes, missing out on who he is means that you are way behind on your horror knowledge as he was the man whose life goal was to kill the undead. A vampire slayer with extensive knowledge of the occult who has had many iterations over the years. Personally, I’d love to see them give him a Batman vibe but just going after bloodsuckers.

A man shrouded in mystery that the vampires fear though don’t know anything about who has a slew of gadgets specifically to deal with them.

Of course, some version has had him going up against any number of mystical monsters, so it will be interesting to see which route they go with here.

Are you looking forward to checking out ‘Van Helsing’? What direction do you think that they’ll take the character? Share your thoughts below!
