The seventh season has given us a very broken Rick Grimes at the hands of Negan but when ‘The Walking Dead‘ returns it seems like we’ll be going in a very different direction. The end of the first half of the season appears to have put our survivors back on track and now Andrew Lincoln is telling us that the old Rick Grimes is going to be fully back in action.

When it comes to comparing the second half of the season to the first, Lincoln says:

“It’s probably the opposite of what you just witnessed. Certainly from Rick’s point of view. You see a man in action again with some of the members of his closest family.”

We’re going to be getting our characters back to where we wanted them. There will be a few surprises going forward:

“There’s a lot more levity, if you can believe that, than you’ve ever seen before in Mr. Grimes. There’s sort of a freedom in him, a feeling that comes from losing everything, and also the thrill of the fight. It’s the thrill of the fight again. He’s back in. All I’m saying is that the band is back together.”

Honestly, Lincoln is thrilled with the back half of the season and is very excited for fans as well:

“There are several episodes that I loved being involved in and it certainly feels very much more like a show that I knew and recognized in the back eight. I loved the episodes that I was in.

It’s The Magnificent Seven in the back half. Rather, the magnificent eight episodes. Wait till [episode] 16. I promise you, there is one beat in 16, I dropped my script and started punching the air and did a little jig.”

I’m hoping that “the episodes that I was in” doesn’t mean that we’ll be getting a lot of stand alone episodes again but I do have to say that I’m now eagerly looking forward to seeing what happens in the 16th episode.
