Tales from the Crypt

We meet almost all reboots with mixed receptions these days and with M. Night Shyamalan getting ready to reboot ‘Tales From the Crypt‘ for TNT there has been a long delay in production and we’ve finally found out why. The premiere was originally scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2016 and as December is about to close out we’ve still not even seen a trailer for the show. This delay and lack of insight have spawned quite a few rumors, the most popular of which is that the budget was running far too high with no way to bring it down which led the show to a premature cancellation.

That isn’t the case at all! TNT has finally revealed the cause for this delay:

The underlying rights to this classic, vintage property are complicated. TNT and others have been pursuing a solution for more than a year, with significant progress being made. We look forward to the potential for further active development of this valuable franchise once the clearance process is fully resolved.

So it boils down to being a rights issue. With HBO having run 93 episodes from 1989 to 1996 and the original comics produced 27 issues from 1950 to 1955 through EC Comics, there is no word as to where the rights issue is coming from but it looks as if the studio is now aiming for a fourth-quarter 2017 release.

As an anthology series, this is one that could theoretically give us new horror with a built-in fan base from the comics or original show. With ‘Black Mirror’ showing that this style of horror can still be extremely successful and franchises like ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ to name just a couple, it is quite clear that shows full of scares are still a big hit with audiences.

Are you looking forward to a new reboot of ‘Tales from the Crypt’? Do you think we’ll be in for something special if and when this eventually drops or will it quickly fade from a lack of ratings? Share your thoughts below!
