Batman Ben Affleck

While ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ wasn’t critically praised the majority of viewers did seem to like Batman so in a recent interview, Ben Affleck was asked for an update on ‘The Batman‘. Outside of directing and starring in the film, Affleck is co-writing the script so if anyone has knowledge on where the screenplay currently is it would be him and he did have a few words to say on the matter!

The interview happened during a Facebook Live event and Chip McGrath from the New York Times. Affleck spoke a bit about what took him to become Batman in the DCEU and how he was hesitant to take on the part after how ‘Daredevil’ had ended up but that he is happy he did.

For those hoping that ‘The Batman’ might begin filming soon, though, it sounds as if the script isn’t quite done yet:

McGrath: So you just mentioned that you’ve made a sequel, and there’s going to be yet another sequel, but in the meantime you’re down I believe to write, direct and star in a standalone Batman movie, is that right?

Affleck: That’s the idea, yeah, that’s the idea. We still have to get a screenplay and get it together-

McGrath: I thought you were going to write it?

Affleck: I am; that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to be good. [laughs] I’m a real believer in not doing, not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather like when you get the right story or you get the right idea or you get the right thing, then you make the movie. And so that’s what we’re doing, and I’m hoping to get that done and spending a lot of time on that, but I’m also working on other stuff. And if I could, if I can find it right then there’s nothing I’d love more than to direct a standalone, you know, iconic great Batman movie.

Affleck has previously said that he wants to make sure that they put out a good Batman movie when he dons the cowl outside of a collaboration film and while I’m sure fans can all get behind that, we’re all also a bit worried about how long it will be until the film actually makes its way to the big screen.

Do you think this delay will be worth the wait when ‘The Batman’ finally comes out or are they pushing the release date back too far and another writer should get involved? Share your thoughts below!
