For those us of who stuck around after the final episode‘s credits rolled, the interviews with the show’s cast and executive producers about the finale and next season isn’t necessarily new, as it did air the same night as the finale, but it was still interesting to see their thoughts on where the show is heading and what it all means for the hosts in the future.

According to star Jeffrey Wright:

“One of the most curious elements of the show is the empathy for the robots, in many respects it becomes a metaphor for awakening, for consciousness, for spirituality….and what we find is that the creators are less human than the creations.”

In the words of Jonathan Nolan as to where we are heading in Season 2:

“If the first season was defined by control, the second season is defined by chaos, that’s what Ford has been planning all along…Ford has set in motion what he thinks is a plan, that nature of that plan is something we explore in the second season, what his intentions are.. is it to let the hosts escape, is it to teach humans a lesson.”

And when Abrams himself weighs in, he simply states:

“…what happens are the dawn of consiousness, what happens when we begin to wake up.”

Another big mystery of the show that might finally be answered is WHEN exactly ‘Westworld’ takes place, as even though it is rumored to take place in the 21st century we still do not know much about the world outside of the park. Fortunately, thanks to the ‘Delos Incorporated Website,’ (as first reported by Slashfilm as found by a clever Reddit user), if you type in “reverie” in the admin text entry box and hit enter, you get a clip showing corrupted security footage from the finale showing the hosts fighting the security personnel in the Mesa hub. However, if you pay attention to the very beginning, you’ll notice that a blue screen flashes with a date, that claims the video took place on 6/15/2052, potentially finally giving us a date for the series, if this is to be believed. Which is trippy because it makes the 30 year old flashbacks take place around 2022, only 6 years into our future, and whether or not we are really this close to this kind of robot technology is truly up for debate, though there are some who believe we just might be.

What are your thoughts on Season 2 of the show? Do you believe this leak, and think the show truly does take place in 2052? Feel free to share any opinions or theories you might have in the comments section below!
