legends-of-tomorrow-rip-hunter

If you’re a fan of the DC Universe on The CW, then chances are that you’re really excited for the four-part crossover that is unfolding over the course of ‘Supergirl’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Arrow’, and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’. What isn’t there to be excited about? All of these super friends finally coming together in a big way in a massive week-long event? It’s going to be amazing. However, one person that likely won’t be making an appearance is Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter. The former captain of the Waverider has been missing since the Legends’ mission in 1942 in New York City. Sara Lance has stepped in as the new leader of the group, many fans have to wonder whether the former Time Master will pop up again ever. And though a show about time travel usually gives us an answer with a when, this time we have a hint regarding the how.

During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ star Maisie Richardson-Sellers revealed the fate of Darvill’s character. The actress who plays the Justice Society of America version of Vixxen was surprisingly candid with basically a yes or no answer, but then followed up with a bit of a tease:

“He does come back, just not necessarily the Rip that we remember. That’s sort of what is a big part of the second half of the season.”

In the Arrowverse, this could mean a number of things. Maybe the team will encounter a younger Rip Hunter. They are in a time machine after all. Or it’s possible that they come across a Rip Hunter from another universe with the help of Barry Allen. That is well within his wheelhouse these days. No matter how it happens, I guess we can definitively say that Rip Hunter will be back. Although apparently he won’t be the only one. When asked about any more of her JSA teammates making an appearance again, she confirmed that we would be seeing a comeback, but was vague about the identity of this person:

“There is someone coming back. That’s all I can say, that there is someone coming back you will see in the next episode we’re shooting, that’s…12.”

This character could really be anyone at this point. For all we know, Captain Cold could make a comeback. What about Vandal Savage? What if he somehow shows up again? The Hawks are out there somewhere too. Could they come back for a mission or two? The list is pretty endless when it comes to this particular revelation. And seeing as this happens in episode twelve, we have a way to go until we find out the answer. So until then, let’s hear your thoughts and theories about who this other returning character might be in the comments below.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ starring Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh, Dominic Purcell, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Nick Zano airs on Thursdays at 8:00pm on The CW.
