When danger threatens the world, the mightiest superheroes join together as the Justice League and at long last, the team is again gathering in animated form on Cartoon Network’s new series ‘Justice League Action’.  Following the *ahem* success of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ this spring, the show clearly focuses on DC’s trinity, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman but in the newest trailer, we do get quick glimpses of The Flash, Blue Beetle, Firestorm and Zatanna, as well as baddies The Joker and Atrocitus.

‘Justice League Action’ will premiere on Friday December 16 at 6pm EST before switching to its regular Saturday morning time slot on December 24th.  Each 30 minute episode consists of two 11-minute shorts, similar to certain seasons of the classic ‘Super Friends’.

Obviously, tonally, ‘Justice League Action’ is more along the lines of ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ (or possibly even ‘Teen Titans Go!’) than ‘Justice League’/’Justice League Unlimited’.  But even though many were initially put off by the lighter style of ‘B:BatB’, those that gave it a chance discovered that it was actually a well-crafted show that paid tribute to DC Comics’ lengthy history, even the wilder and weirder aspects.  Hopefully, ‘Justice League Action’ will live up to that standard.

The show reunites the two most popular Batman and Joker voice actors, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, who have been providing their voices off and on since 1992’s ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ until the recent ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ animated movie. Hamill will also provide the voice of Alec Holland/The Swamp Thing in upcoming episodes.

The first episode is entitled ‘Shazam Slam’ and guest stars Shazam, voiced by Sean Astin (Raphael on ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’).  It appears the villain of the episode will be Mr. Mind voiced by Oliver Vaquer (‘Jane the Virgin’).

Also included in the cast are Jason J. Lewis (‘Swamp Talk With Shrek and Donkey’) as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Kimsey (the ‘Call of Duty’ games) as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.  Among the guest cast are Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold, P.J. Byrne as Firestorm, John DiMaggio as Darkseid and Lobo, Michael Dorn as Atrocitus, Josh Keaton as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan (Keaton previously voiced him on ‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ as well as on ‘DC Super Hero Girls’), Khary Payton as Cyborg (he also voices Cyborg on ‘Teen Titans Go!’), Carl Reiner as The Wizard, Armin Shimerman as Zilius Zox, Dana Snyder as Plastic Man, Brent Spiner as The Riddler, Joanne Spracklen as Supergirl, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn and James Woods as Lex Luthor.

Kids (and some adults) were given a tease of the show this fall when McDonald’s included ‘Justice League Action’ toys in their Happy Meals, including figurines and accessories based on Batman, Superman, Green Arrow, Hawkman and Plastic Man.
