As we recently reported, ‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller has exited the sequel, citing creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. Though the split is by all appearances an amicable one, we likely won’t know the full story until sometime after the release of the film, if ever.
With that said, the real focus now is less on what might have happened with Miller and more on the question of who is going to step into his shoes. There has been no official word on his replacement yet, though no doubt Fox is actively scouring for talent even as we speak. But whatever Fox might have in mind, it should go without saying that fans, have their own ideas.
One man, though, has taken things a step further. A fan by the name of Carl Champion Jr has launched a petition on Change.com, imploring the powers that be to offer the director’s chair to none other than Quentin Tarantino. While the ‘Pulp Fiction’ auteur may not seem the obvious choice for such a project, Champion specifically calls out the appeal of Tarantino’s signature dialogue in his petition, to say nothing of what his famous facility with screen violence could bring to the action scenes. I could go on, but why not let Champion pitch the idea in his own words?
If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it. We got a great taste of what this could be like in ‘Kill Bill’, but imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for The Merc with the Mouth! It would be so glorious. Join me!
Champion’s petition is currently sitting at 2,471 signatures as of this writing.
Would I put money on Tarantino stepping behind the camera for the superhero sequel? Of course not. But it’s a fun possibility to explore nonetheless.
