The holidays are notoriously slow for entertainment news. There really isn’t much to tell and what there is to tell usually isn’t worth telling anyway. That said, some news just came across my desk that sent a viscous grin across my face. And if you’re someone who grew up in the mid-80’s, it might just do the same to you.

I loved the 80’s b-movie cheese of stuff like Charles Band’s Full Moon movies and, in particular, a little cult flick called ‘Killer Klowns from Outer Space’. The movie, for those who don’t remember it, was an homage to the b-movies of the 50’s and 60’s. It had invading aliens, promiscuous teenagers, cops and adults who were mostly useless, and plenty of horrid dialogue.

Now, the Chido Brothers, who created the original ‘Killer Klowns’ have announced that they have written and will be making a “requel” to their original cult hit. Titled (appropriately) ‘Return of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space’, the film will be released in 2012. Even better… it’ll probably be filmed and released in glorious 3D!

The Chidos, who wrote, directed, and created the puppet FX for the original film have apparently been trying to bring their new vision to light for several years. Now they actually have distribution and things are coming to fruition. Not much is known about the movie yet. What we do know is that actor Grant Cramer who played the lead teen Mike Tobacco in the first ‘Killer Klowns’ will be reprising his role. This time around, though, Mike is (obviously) an older guy who is helping some new teenagers who must put a stop to the dastardly Klowns and save the Earth once again.

Even as I write this, I haven’t been able to stop grinning and I’m considering rewatching the original. If you haven’t seen the first ‘Killer Klowns’, you really should. It’d make a great fun movie to watch at your New Year’s party (particularly because it’ll probably be even more enjoyable with the addition of alcohol on the part of the audience). And… it’s on Netflix Instant, so you have no excuse! Go watch it now and prepare for the second coming in 2012!

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!
