It isn’t often we get high-quality biopics that fit well for science fiction until now. Fox’s ‘Hidden Figures’ show us some of the key players that made travel into space possible and the studio has announced it will be given a limited run in the Christmas season to allow it to qualify for the Oscars. The film is about a group of African-American female mathematicians whose work made it possible for NASA to first put astronaut John Glenn into orbit. It was a feat of science and math which has helped power our dreams of the stars and one which was greatly overlooked when it first happened.

The film is being directed by Theodore Melfi (‘St. Vincent’) and stars Taraji P. Henson (‘Person of Interest‘,’The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, Octavia Spencer (‘Snowpiercer‘,’Insurgent‘), and Janelle Monae (‘Moonlight’,’Rio 2′) as the trio who made this dream a reality. The film will also star Kevin Costner as the Mission Supervisor who is a clear product of the time and doesn’t feel that the three will be able to actually help the program.

For those unfamiliar with the film you can check out the trailer below:

The film will be based on the upcoming non-fiction book ‘Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race’ by Lee Shetterly that tell the story of these three often overlooked women who helped the United States eventually land the first man on the moon.
