Person of Interest Season 4 cast

After months of postponing, CBS has finally announced the premiere date for Season 5 of ‘Person of Interest’ but unfortunately, it has been confirmed that this will also be the series’ last season.

The show will return in its old time slot of Tuesdays at 10 pm beginning on May 3rd filling the spot that has been occupied by ‘Limitless’ which will see its season finale on April 26th.  After the premiere, new episodes will air twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 pm starting on Monday, May 9 and continue until all 13 episodes have aired. The series finale will air on Tuesday, June 21st.

Just like the Season 4 finale of the series, the Eye network kept The Machine in a box for much of the 2015-2016 television season so the news comes bittersweet. Speculation that this may be the end of ‘Person of Interest’ on CBS began last year when the network only renewed the series for a limited run. Then its absence in both the Fall and mid-season television line up put more fuel on the fire with the final match lit with the announcement that Sarah Shahi (who plays Sameen Shah on the series) landed the title role on the CBS pilot ‘Nancy Drew.’ The entire time, however, cast, producers and fans were left in the dark of the show’s future but pretty much knew this could be the end.

Even though the news may seem devastating to fans, some comfort can be had with the knowledge that ‘Person of Interest’ won’t end without some sort of closure. According to J.J. Abrams, Season 5 was written with the mindset that this could be the last season.

In a statement to IGN, executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman stated:

“We’re extremely excited to be able share this final season with the fans. We’re eternally grateful to our amazing cast and crew, as well as our partners at the studio and network. Most of all, we want to thank the show’s fans — the best fans in the world. This subversive little paranoia-inducing cyberpunk-thriller is for you and would not have been possible without your support. As life has come to imitate Person of Interest, it’s been our great privilege to work on show for the past five seasons. We can’t wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter.”

We’ll be recapping ‘Person of Interest’ when it returns but in the meantime, you can catch up with Seasons 1-4 on Netflix.
