Are you digging the sweet (Christmas!) hip hop musical score to Netflix’s newest hit ‘Luke Cage’?  It is available digitally on iTunes, etc. but fitting the old school, 70s “blaxploitation” vibe of the show, collectibles creators Mondo are issuing it in the purest musical format: Vinyl.

The soundtrack, technically called ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’, will be released in a limited edition two record set, molded in “Power Man yellow,” the color of Cage’s classic superhero costume.  The set will feature the artwork of Matthew Woodson and the music is by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

luke-cage-1Mondo is excited to unveil the soundtrack for Marvel’s Luke Cage, the Netflix original series, with collectible artwork of the bulletproof hero by Matthew Woodson. Composers Adrian Younge (Something About April) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) have combined forces to produce one of the best scores of 2016 featuring an inspired, genre-bending blend of orchestral score and 90’s hip-hop beats, filtered through the sonic lens of the works of Ennio Morricone.

It’s no surprise that the score hovers in the same terrain of the Spaghetti Westerns soundtracks of Morricone – the narrative of Luke Cage plays out like a modern Western, only set in Harlem. Muhammad and Younge have meticulously crafted one of the most unique sonic landscapes in the history of television.

In a statement, Younge and Shaheed Muhammad announced:

“We sought to create a score that reflects the world of Luke Cage. We see this world as a place where classic cinema meets classic Hip Hop.”

The vinyl set will retail for $35 and is available for preorder now, via Mondo’s website.

Mondo’s announcement came prior to an event at The Theatre at Ace Hotel, Los Angeles on October 6, featuring music curated by Younge and Shaheed Muhammad.

Are you a fan of the music on ‘Luke Cage’?  Do you want want this collectible two record set?  Maybe add it to your Sweet Christmas list!
