The Munster family is now complete as it’s being reported that Portia de Rossi has officially signed on to play Lily Munster in Bryan Fuller’s reboot of ‘The Munsters’ called ‘Mockingbird Lane.’

De Rossi is well known to television audiences from starring in the popular shows ‘Arrested Development,’ ‘Better Off Ted,’ ‘Nip/Tuck,’ and ‘Ally McBeal.’ She will now trade in her blonde tresses for brunette ones as she becomes the matriarch of the Munster clan.

The role was originally offered to ‘True Blood’ vet Mariana Klaveno on the condition that ABC would be willing to release her from her contract to the show ‘Devious Maids’ because although she was not a lead, she did have a regular role. NBC was very keen on having Klaveno play Lily that they offered to allow her to be able to film ‘Devious Maids’ in a recurring capacity. Obviously, the producers for ‘Devious Maids’ did not go for this and NBC was forced to go back to the drawing board.

De Rossi was tied up with the pilot ‘The Smart One’ that she was to produce with her partner Ellen DeGeneres but when ABC passed on the show last month, she became available for other projects.

De Rossi will now join Jerry O’Connell who will play her hubby Herman Munster, Eddie Izzard as her father Grandpa, Mason Cook as her son Eddie and Charity Wakefield as the freakishly normal niece Marilyn.

‘Mockingbird Lane’ is said to be a darker, edgier take on the origins of Herman and Lily Munster and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane home. With filming to begin in the summer, NBC is looking to put this show as a mid-season entry.

So what do you think of the casting of the Munster family? Would you be watching the show?
