Are you ready for the return of the Cullen family?  Because they might be returning, according to Patrick Wachsberger, co-chairman 0f Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, the company that released the five movies in the ‘Twilight’ franchise based on Stephanie Meyer‘s best selling YA novels.  But it sounds as if it depends on Meyer.

According to Wachsberger:

“It’s a possibility. Not a certainty but it’s a possibility. It’s about Stephenie [Meyer]. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we’re here for her.”

So it doesn’t sound like any agreement has been made.  But even with the storyline of Edward and Bella wrapped up, there could potentially be more tales set within this world, either focusing on Edward’s extended family, Jacob’s fellow werewolves or even new characters.

The movie series’ stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have all struggled to carve out box office successes outside of the popular vampire brand.  The one actor to achieve any real post-‘Twilight’ success is Anna Kendrick, who played the fairly minor role of Bella’s friend Jessica, but has gone on to headline the ‘Pitch Perfect’ franchise among other hits.

The ‘Twilight’ films, however, generated over $3 billion in revenue and Liosngate has struggled in recent years in their attempts to replicate the franchise’s success seeing diminishing returns with their ensuing YA series including ‘The Hunger Games’ and most notoriously, ‘Divergent’.  After perhaps mistakenly splitting the last ‘Divergent’ novel ‘Allegiant’ into two films (a strategy that worked for ‘Twilight’ as well as Warner Brothers’ ‘Harry Potter’) Lionsgate announced plans to shift the fourth and final ‘Divergent’ installment, ‘Ascendant’ to a TV movie instead of a theatrical release which means they may not be able to court the previous films’ rising star cast, including Shailene Woodley (who has already stated that she wasn’t interested in TV acting), Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Theo James, Jai Courtney and others.

In other words, Lionsgate could use another sure-fire hit.  But can ‘Twilight’ still deliver the fans all this time later?  Or did those fans grow into ‘Fifty Shades’ fanatics?

Would you like to see another ‘Twilight’ movie?
