In a new interview on ‘American Gods‘, showrunner Bryan Fuller went down a very interesting conversation about “digital erections.” Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read that right. If you haven’t read the novel or have just been reading the synopsis of the series that may sound like something that is coming out of left field. First, let me share the exact quote with you and then I’ll give you a quick explanation on why it actually makes sense.

Here is what Fuller had to say about the on-screen digital erotica that will be happening:

“We have so many visual effects that involve digital erections. We have conversations, ‘Well, should we get [a] dildo and strap it onto the actors, is that going to be more cost effective? Or is it easier just to give them digital erections?'”

Now, why would the cast actually need to have help here? Well, aside from the Gods going to war with one another, anyone who knows about deities know that they tend to enjoy having sex and the ones in Neil Gaiman‘s ‘American Gods’ are no different. While we don’t know exactly what will make the cut or be added, the novel itself contained deities having sex, gay sex, and even a man with a creature in the desert. While I’m sure some of this will be toned down or filmed creatively, it does sound as if they aren’t going to be toning things down that much which was never really an issue when it was announced that the series would premiere on Starz.

Are you looking forward to the upcoming season of ‘American Gods’? Happy to hear that they’ll be sexing up the show while staying true to the source material? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis:

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.
