In the mid-90s Bill Nye introduced an entire generation to science with ‘Bill Nye, the Science Guy‘ and now thanks to a deal with Netflix he is coming back with ‘Bill Nye Saves the World’. Don’t let the title fool you, though, Nye won’t be donning a costume as a superhero but instead the series “will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.”

Seems like the premise is almost that of a Snopes for Science but brought to us by one of the biggest names in science as educational entertainment. When the series launches in the Spring of 2017 I can guarantee that this sounds like one show that I’ll be interested in checking out.

The platform of the series sounds quite different than the show that launched his television career that gives us science being fact and not fiction in a world where many are arguing the validity of sciences.

According to Nye:

“Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”

The series won’t just feature Nye and how he teaches science but be full of guests, experiments, and demonstrations of the facts that really break down the topic of each episode. Don’t expect the show to be having a serious tone though as they do have standup comedian Mike Drucker on board as the Head Comedy Writer so there will be some lighthearted moments as well.

I’m just waiting for an announcement that Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be making a cameo. I mean he has been on Neil’s Star Talk radio and TV shows quite a few times at this point.

Are you looking forward to checking out ‘Bill Nye Saves the World’? Who would you like to make an appearance on the show? Share your thoughts below!
