Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2‘ is shaping up to be just as fun as the first one but until now we weren’t exactly sure when its events take place. Obviously, the first film was somewhere in line with the recently released films in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe due to Thanos chasing down Infinity Stones, but thanks to director James Gunn we’ve learned exactly how it stacks up against the other movies. Most of the films released have taken place in the same month as their premiere date but our next outing with Star-Lord is going to buck that trend.

In fact, the sequel is going to take place in 2014 and just 2 months after ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’. To put it more in perspective, the events in the sequel will be in the past taking place prior the events in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘.

Here is the comment Gunn made on Facebook to clarify the timeline:

What that means for our heroes who will be joining up with The Avengers in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and the untitled ‘Avengers 4’ is a mystery. That will place us years behind on their story when they join in on the ultimate crossover event for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
